Mark Knopfler was born in Glasgow and only lived in Newcastle from the age of 9 to his late teens."Whey" has nothing to do with the word "Why",Example: "Whey whadda ya ganna de aboot it?"Translation: "Well what are you going to do about it?""Whey" is a slang word for "Well", any true Geordie knows and says it on a daily basis!

Well done. i really thought that newcastle was in scotland. yeah idiot. its cos mark knopfler is scottish. thats why im proud. idiot

Yeah, totally. Not that Mark Knopfler was born in Newcastle or lived most of his life in Newcastle or anything ¬_¬.Dialect changes. While you may think that the saying is "Whey" this obviously originates from the word "Why".

What's that got to do with anything, this song is about north east England not Scotland.

"Why aye, man", can be translated as "We are affirming it in no uncertain terms, sir", or "Yes, I definitely mean it, friend" |
