Rumpled, you are incorrect, sorry to tell you. He always plays Ocean different. This particular time he had his drummer and bassist assisting. Starting around 2:00 the drummer is hitting the bass drum. Butler is doing nothing on the guitar that would create those perfect bass drum sounds.

Actually, this version of Ocean is done with the bassist and drummer playing. The drummer is just hitting the bass drum in different parts, the bass player is assisting as well. Nothing dramatic, but it does add a lot to this performance imho. On other versions the drummer and bassist do not play, you can tell the difference.

There aren't three of him, the audio just isn't sync'd with the video very well.

That's wrong, actually. That's just him. That's taken 100% live from the concert. I've seen the dude play this on the street, with no PA, and no backing, and it's identical. It's a very powerfully-played bass note, and utilises a lot of legato movements, but it's all him, right there.

yeah that's definitely true! This guy's the best

I think one of the best things about this song is how that despite how amazing he is, he still fucked up at the beginning which makes it seem like a really genuine piece that was written from the soul as opposed to 10 odd years of guitar training.May sound stupid but there you go :P |
