Actually she was entirely of Russian Jewish descent. She was from the south though. The racists in the media back in the day who detested her Jewishness wrote racist attacks against her to hurt her career implying she was mixed race back when that was taboo. It is unfortunate that you continue those untruths today.

Pure, glimmering, beautiful genius. I don't understand how a person could NOT get shivers watching this phenomenal display of effortless and super-human vocal control. I firmly believe that talent of this magnitude exists today, but that the rare individuals who posses such talent are simply not appealing to the mass media, and thus go undiscovered and undeveloped. This sort of wasted genius is perhaps the greatest tragedy in music since Mozart's early death.
