If you think EJ's voice is amazing here, check out the "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" 1976 video on this site! Talk about sending chills up & down your spine!!! Elton was at his vocal BEST!!!

This song (& album) was done before Davey Johnstone joined Elton's group. This was Elton's" "orchestra" period. Davey was first featured on "Good-bye Yellow Brick Road". Then, percussionist Ray Cooper debuted on "Caribou". Elton changed the line-up--excluding Nigel and Dee--on "Rock Of The Westies". Later on down the line, Nigel rejoined the band, but I don't know if Dee ever came back or not. I think he did.

You'd hate me then! I was a preteen when Elton was at his pinnacle, but I still LOVED his music. The first song I noticed of his was "The Bitch Is Back" off of "Caribou". I used to get into trouble for singing the chorus because of "bitch". I followed his work from then on. The 70's was a unique time for rock because it was coming onto it's own, and there will never be another time like it in our lifetimes. THAT makes me feel sooooo blue!!

Unfortunately, his original bassist--Dee Murray--is no longer with us. He died in 1992 from complications of chemo treatments for Skin Cancer. I guess he suffered a stroke. He was living in Nashville at the time with his wife and two kids.
