If that guy paid $1100 to remove spyware he was seriously taken advantage of. If my company worked on it and looked like it was going to take that long to rack up a bill of $1100, we would suggest it's faster and cheaper to backup the data and rebuild the computer and that would cost maybe $180-$240 max, worst case senario. And that's rebuilding the entire system from scratch. A spyware infection shouldn't cost more than $180-$255 max to remove. No matter who you hire.
