I don't think that exact thinking completely uninfluenced by emotions or biases is possible, but I do agree that it is essential to recognize (as far as is possible) the nature and effects they have on thoughts and decisions.

I agree, of course both are bias'. However it's the reasoning (or lack thereof) behind the bias that I'm concerned with. This started with a discussion of the difference between intolerance and prejudice. This is moving away from that.

The "conclusion" is itself going to be inevitably self-serving, therefore biased/subjective/prejudiced/intolerant/whatever ....What more can be said on this?

FFS = For Fuck Sake.Whether a prejudice towards something be favourable or unfavourable, it is still just a bias.Whether this bias has a reason behind it that you are willing to accept or not, it is still a bias. The concept that we are discussing is whether or not one can assimilate information, data, "facts", from the outside world and come to a conclusion with regard to these "facts" that is not clouded by subjectivity.I don't think one can.

Please avoid abbreviations, I'm not familiar with that particular one (FFS). Also, I already explained the distinction and clearly I don't see it that way but one more time for repetition's sake.Prejudice is an unfavorable opinion, or feeling formed either beforehand/without knowledge/thought or reasonIntolerance is also an unfavorable feeling or opinion, however it is formed with knowledge/thought or reason and not beforehand.

I accuse thee of "sprachspiel", umbrageous villain.;)What is the distinction between "prejudism" and tolerance/intolerance?Can you not conceive that to be intolerant of intolerance is itself a bias and therefore a "prejudism"?FFS ...

everything human beings think, say and do involves prejudice, so that includes intolerance. that's my view at least
platypode (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Actually the argument I got into was about prejudice and whether intolerance is a form of prejudice. I think maybe you might be able to see why I won't bother arguing that with igneous anymore in light of his views |
