Willie Mays was never the legend that Mick and Duke were in NY. His jealousy of the two outfielders is lendendary. Mays took it as a racial thing summizing that the media and fans prefer Mick and Duke. Sad figure indeed.

I had heard that Mays was a bit of a jerk at times. One has to know how he felt about the Barry Bonds "steroid" issue. After all, he was Bonds godfather. He is very bitter in his old age. I never thought of him as a role model, much like his godson.

Yeah, I've heard he was a prick, at least with the press.

Actually, I thought it was Ross Porter, but I'm not sure, either...

Actually, Ross Porter crossed my mind, but I don't know who it is. . . . .

Might have been said earlier in these comments, but Home Run Derby was filmed in Wrigley Field in Los Angeles. The park, built in 1925, was the home of the PCL Los Angeles Angels from 1925 to 1957, and was the home of the major league L.A. Angels in their first year (1961). The American League Angels moved to Dodger Stadium for the 1962 season.Got to wonder whether the homes over the left-field fence had a broken window or two. |
