Gabler-Orgel Weingarten

This is one more fragment from the French organ documentary on the Chinese DVD - the fantastic organ in Weingarten, built 1737-1750. The German Wikipedia has huge resolution photographs of the console at http://tinyurl.com/og64h and the disposition. The organist is André Isoir but in this case I was somewhat less interested in the music :-) He plays the solo line by a curious stretch between two keyboards — I thought it would be normally played on the pedals coupled to some reasonable stop. Perhaps this organ has no sensible (for this piece) solo stops coupled to the pedals? The disposition on the Wikipedia does not mention any couplers.

This is the "Cantabile mit einem angenehmen Orgelregister" by JustinusHeinrich Knecht (1752-1817), as published in J.H. Knecht: AusgewählteOrgelwerke, Universal Edition UE 17469, page 10-13Dick

I AWARD THIS 3 GRYPHONS....As while the performance is adequate without particualr negative or positive distinction...the organ itself has such a fully conflictive human dimensional panarama, that just the opening phrases of this video provide a chilling funereality because of the brilliant achievements of the organmaker.

Does anyone know the title of the piece played at the beginning of this video?

I've always been fascinated by this fantasmagorical (sp?) instrument. Mice to hear its voice...

At the second manual, the trumpet 8` was the good choice.Very nice organ!

Yes, you can tell the reason for the two-manual stretch if you listen to what he's playing! I think he's a pretty good organist to do it that way. Very nice effect. Very nice organ too!

Nice to see Isoir also play an organ continuo part... Bach himself did not transcribe it like this...

La Force only works on bottom C, though.
