I remember this night well - I was at Rutgers on Busch campus. But it wasn't warm - that was the winter we had a really deep freeze, like -2 temps - PSE&G was putting out energy conservation alerts on the radio because they couldn't get into their coal piles for the power plants. We could see this fireball at Rutgers, we headed for it to see what it was - we got within 1/2 mile of it , the temp was like 85 degrees outside and it was lit up like day! Absolutely unforgettable.

I'll never forget this. We lived 3 miles away at the time in Highland Park. That night it looked like a war. We even felt the heat from it too. A friend of ours was a pilot for United at the time flying back from Florida. He said from above it looked like they nuked Newark (where the airport is). It was early after the explosion and they didn't even know what happened. A greedy contractor burying a truck did it. He didn't want to pay to get it taken away. The asshole damaged a pipe doing so.

I live 5 miles from there and remember this day like it was yesterday.I had a family friend and co-worker go missing for 16 hours afterwards.

man i remeber that as if it was yesterday and i was only five i lived right next to there! i rememeber the whole sky was bright orange!
