Soprano Elizabeth Connell sings Elektra's monologue "Orest" of the opera by Richard Strauss in a performance given on 15 March 2005 in Berlin at the Staatsoper, conducted by Michael Boder. Orest is sung by Hanno Müller-Brachmann.Elizabeth Connell's Elektra may be the most youthful and lyrical sounding interpretation of this role I know of. Not to mention the biggest top c's!Look out for two more excerpts from the same performance! (more)

Brava - great singing from a great Wagner-Strauss soprano. I saw her Elektra in a concert performance with the Montreal Symphony conducted by Charles Dutoit several years ago. Her bright, youthful and beautiful tone never ceases to amaze me. Connell is far, far superior to the other Elektras in front of the public today, such as Gabrielle Schnaut and Deborah Polaski...

Connell has a truly remarkable ability to communicate the vulnerability of Elektra. This is a brilliant interpretation and a stunning performance.

I can't agree that she has the biggest top c's. Whoever said that never heard Nillson's huge voice soar out those top notes with perfect clarity and phrasing.

Have heard this lady live sing various performances and she is a great technician who -wisely- does not try to make the voice "heavy" for dramatic effect... The funny thing is that the dramatic point is achieved nontheless, and sounds healthy. As for Gwyneth, who is mentioned by other viewers, and feel myself blessed to have also seen live quite often, she goes for everything or nothing!! And on a good day, she is transcending the human nature...

She certainly is more convincing I agree\. But that her top c's are warm or....

Listen to Jones for a start who is dramatically and vocally, top notes included, a more convincingly Elektra than Connell.

Top notes sharp? Come on, what do you expect from a hochdramatic soprano? That their high c's sound like Kathleen Ferrier? It's not the Freni's that can sing these parts...

Agree with earlier poster. A good singer but she is not an Elektra either in voice or character.
