He's right on several points: One,90% of what SocialScientist like himself say are wrong. Two, vested interest will make it difficult for any President to make changes. And third, the Media is for Bush(hehe).

Don't place your hope on others - You are your your own Hope!

The closing notion is very true. There's a huge difference between how we think about the USA now, and how we thought about it some decades earlier. Not only because of the shady foreign politics, but also because more and more people realize the real face of the USA's "culture": consumerism, car-addiction, etc. Increasingly popular ideas about the USA: fat, dumb people; neurotic patriotism; warmonger leaders spreading propaganda; enslaving poor nations by capitalism; environment destruction.

seattle 1999 was a coming together of a global movement which had been growing throughout the 90's and was by no means centered in the usa. it did not "then spread around the world" as cj says here...an amero-centrism just slipped out from the mouth, even of this bright man. ya basta!

I do agree, I shouldn't be as pessimistic. First order of business, vote and vote third party. Second order, try to open up the debates and work to get rid of the electoral college, and possibly gerrymandering.

The public, even if it had all the right info is dumb. The public in Washington's time was prob. dumber. The difference is our leaders now take advantage of the stupidity and actively harm the republic.

This man is brilliant. And he has a wide perspective like Chomsky. I like him better. Chomsky is insightful but loses the big perspective and goes on forever about E. Timor and S. America and American crimes.Johnson ties it all together and shows how imperialism affects US politics and economics.
