As much as I love Diana Rigg, I have to say that Maureen Moore's performance as Charlotte cannot be topped. She has perfect control of her subtle expressions and inflections in her voice. Brilliant, five stars. Thanks for sharing this!

Well, technically the term comedy refers to self reflection. In other words comedy is what we are. Tragedy is what we should be. This show is enwrapped with irony. Even the title suggests that the audience think nothing of the show but some light entertainment, when truly it is a visage of our own misunderstanding of love and purpose. Mme Armfeldt is the only character who is skeptical enough to speak the truth, and Fredrieka, the only one to listen, is horrified by the events of the evening.

ALW is fine if you want to be able to sing it on the first time hearing. I prefer composers to have a little more depth.

This was one of Sondheim's comedies...However, it does contain some of the best songs he's written.

Maureen Moore as Charlotte is the ultimate in class. I'm not sure she's ever been bettered.
