I've heard both Hilary and Vengerov on this piece and I really do think both are incredibly enjoyable in their own right. For those people who insist on fighting over who's better, take a second and just appreciate the music itself without the incessant need to label either as the "best." This is one of the most technically demanding pieces in the violin repertoire and Hilary pulls it off here with absolute clarity and bone-chilling beauty. What a truly exceptional performance. Bravo Hilary.

Can anyone say what this performance was for? Seems like way too heavy' a programme for the average audience. Flawlessly done as usual,..I saw her perform the Chausson with the TSO a few years ago...WOW!

In fact, quality violinsts have a vibrato that stems from the finger itself, as well as the wrist, but NEVER the arm. The finger flexes at the second joint, which requires the utmost in flexibility.

I think she is without question one of the most marvelous players in the world. She is nearly flawless. The only thing I barely detect (because I myself have been hammered for the same problem, though I don't compare my playing with hers by any means) is tightness in the left wrist which make a slightly "nervous" sounding vibrato in contrast to the more relaxed luxurious sounding type. It is a very tough trait to overcome, any tenseness in the wrist can be heard. But she is REMARKABLE!

completely agree, even in the kaler´s

wholeheartedly disagree with you there. Ysaye was a precise, refined player as was enesco, to whom this is dedicated. Vengerov plays with a great deal of enthusiasm, yes, and a more spectacular VISUAL show, but this is still muchh better in my opinion.of course, i prefer Kalers recordings to either :)

I have to agree with justin10292000 about those of you who are comparing Hahn and Vengerov. Lighten up and consider that these are 2 different musicians with different styles.Just close your eyes when you listen. Visual passion and passion in the piece aren't equivalent. The real nuances come out when there is no visual performance, though visual passion may assist to create overall passion in the piece.Lighten up and enjoy the performance!

Vibrato can come from wrist and arm, depends on what type you are wanting to do. From everything I've seen hers is usually a wrist vibrato, and quick as well. She's got an overall amazing sound.
