finer tolerences,unified grain structures.

Well I think it is a waste, cars like Ferrari cast their engines, en then machine them. It looks cool though!

Strength.

Excellent Vid! I am taking a chance of being stupid here, but what are the advantages of using solid material against cast material?

The 5th axis contouring gives an even angle on the cutter, thus allowing it to always be cutting on the periphery, not the center of cutter. This really improves finish and efficiency.

The spherical cut to the top of the cylinder is probably to match the head, and increases the size (and by that power) of each combustion chamber. That was one AWESOME CNC video!!

My favorite part is when it machines the spherical surface to the top of the cylinder by rotating the block around the cutting tool. Does anyone know what purpose this serves, other than to demonstrate the coolness of this machine and the programmers? This video is awesome by the way

Hello RMF,Are you taking some examples of the V8 and W16 blocks to Autosport? Also, do you have any manifold examples machined from solid? Please send to my usual email address. Thanks in advance - and I will see you at Autosport!

Greetings all,Machining from solid is now more common place than you think. The UK has seen unprecedented growth in forming complex geometric shapes from solid - usually on a multi tasking machine such as the Matsuura CUBLEX.Couple this with large capacity tool & pallet pools & unmanned operation & you have seen the future of CNC machining & manufacturing - right now.See you all at AUTOSPORT INTERNATIONAL at the NEC Birmingham in January - Matsuura: STAND E409
