http://www.ted.com With the drama and urgency of a sportscaster, Prof. Hans Rosling uses software from Gapminder debunks a few myths about the "developing" world. This global health visionary has discovered a powerful new way to communicate complex data about the world; his remarkable interactive graphs help deliver profound insights about global trends and will change forever the way you think about "us" and "them." Rosling is professor of international health at Sweden's Karolinska Institute, and founder of Gapminder, a nonprofit that brings vital global data to life. (Recorded February 2006 in Monterey, CA.) Amazing lecture. It's too bad that, because of thath stupid bureaucracy there's no open access to that data. What the heck is statistics for, if people cannot use whole data and still have to make their own researches first?

This software could also be used to show the difference in education, between the industrialized nations, by entering the data of graduated scientists, and economic specialists, high school graduates vs drop out rates, and the such. It would be very interesting to see where the US would stack up under such scrutiny, as evident by "todaysprogramming" The US would not fare so well. This data then could be shown, to really get a better grasp of our education system in America.

I have watched dozens of Ted videos and, it's official: I cringe every time, I *hate* the Ted introduction. Its loudness in contrast to the talks; the disneyworld daintiness of the fanfare; the hype of the 'incalculably value of ideas'...something else equally useless: when you don't really listen to the guy, and when he gets in-the-zone around 4:20 (!) explaining the projected image, i feel like i'm hearing a nazi rally... ...he also ends that rant on "a completely new world"...hmm

if more people are moving into the middle then there are more dollars in circulation so that means the value of the dollar goes down and inturn makes us all a poorer over time. yes i JUST figured it out.
