They are not using the ettiquette as used by HNIR. To be perfectly honest neither is the Kodachi demonstration. Looks like some Kendo Kata hack apart from the the dead hasso kamae. peole who dont know what they are doing really should not post movies. it only makes them look stupid!

The reiho of HNIR is from the Ogasawara-ryu - not SMR. It is similar to this but there are quite a few inaccuracies in the video.

There are also many similarities between Shinto Muso Ryu Kenjutsu and Niten within the Kata was well.

The opening rei, is that a traditional HNIR or was it imported from the kazari of Shinto Muso Ryu? (I've never seen HNIR rei and I read elsewhere that you guys have some elements of Shinto Muso Ryu kenjutsu in yer system)

Yeah, the history of HNIR in the UK and Haruna sensei's part in it is pretty well known.

It was from Haruna Sensei that my teaching came. The first Niten session in the UK was held in my front room whilst he was staying with me.

It's the way that a lot of Martial Arts are going these days, forget the real idea behind it all....to KILL...and make it pretty and safe. I prefer to try and "regress" to the sort of situation that a swordsman could have found himself in and work from there.

Man, people sure are opinionated around here! As little as I know of Niten, I would think the older the movements, the closer to the original source. Hence, more practical applications. There, that's my opinion! Take care my friend!

Hehe yeah, bad wording on my part.Old as in how we used to practice (when Haruna sensei was still with us) - the techniques as practiced in the ryu are very different to these.

Hehe, I know what you meant with the above but it just sounded kinda funny that you said that these 350 year old teachings were old..as in a bad way ^_^
