A cop will get and inch or two from your face and start yelling, you will get covered in spit, yet if you get spit on them it is a felony. If you raise your hands to your face, you're "resisting arrest." If you run, you're fleeing arrest." If you shove a cop backward, you're committing "battery on a law enforcement officer." Any of these escalates a simple encounter or penny-ante misdemeanor into a felony -- more points for the cop. It is a "setup" in other words in the cops favor.

Actually the most common and LEGAL, inciter is The in-your-face scream-out. It is a setup for felony charges of course, it works like this.

Disorderly conduct, then resisting arrest. Police can't legally incite you. They can't touch you either unless they have a legal reason to do so, because that's assault. If you run from a police officer and they have reasonable suspicion. Which means they have to articulate facts and circumstances that would lead a reasonable person to believe that crime was afoot. But yes if you push a police officer, it's aggravated assault.

Read the Wikipedia page titled "University of Florida Taser incident" & Google-Meyer taser witness testimony-& click on the link titled "Michelle Malkin » Document drop: The Andrew Meyer Taser Stunt ..." for the eyewitness statements by both Police & others present that day.

I have seen the WUFT video and cant hear what is said between the cops and Meyers... But can hear what is said between Meyers and the Senator. I will check the other one out too, sounds interesting. I am puzzled by what law is broken here, disorderly conduct perhaps? I don't see any rioting. Did you know police can legally incite you, meaning put a finger in your chest and yell in your face? If you back up or run (flight) it is a felony. Or if you push them out of your space it is assault.

As I've mentioned before, watch the video, also found in my favorites, titled WUFT Video Andrew Meyer. It's the most complete video of the events of that day I've seen so far. This video provides he best view of Meyer at the mic & the video by fozzymandias, though of decidedly poor video quality, does show what is transpiring between the two ACCENT members & Police while they are waiting behind him at the mic.

After he refused orders to leave & they were removing him, as is seen in the video titled WUFT Video Andrew Meyer, when Kerry interviened & asked that he be allowed to ask a question. ACCENT & Police chose to honor that request. That did NOT mean that he was immune from forum rules & that did NOT mean that the Police were to forget his earlier, ILLEGAL, actions. As I said before, the Police told him they were going to talk to him about his actions after his question.

It would be my guess that Meyer knew what he would be asking would case a scene in itself. He was a middle class kid whose parents taught him that it was expected to question and challenge in a college forum... what they failed to tell him and this is funny... if peoples perspective and/or values differ they will not feel that way about it. To be honest, I am surprised, they didnt drag him out initially, afterall he was breaking the rules and being obnoxious right... so what changed after that

I did have a question about this part. Why didn't they remove him then, instead of letting him have the mic again. I mean if what he did was so wrong before, why wait till after he begins these questions. I do try to get as much info as I can, but all of have different spins on something due to values, personal past history etc... this includes the police. That is one reason why they will arrest one person and not another for doing the very same thing. This is no secret to the police either |
