When these cats went into the studio and recorded this tune, it was in Austin, where they had evacuated after Katrina ~ so yes, it has some very definite added relevance re: the failed state - that failed in Vietnam, Iraq & New Orleans ~ for more, (or the facts on why) , see Naomi Klein's recently released book, "The Shock Doctrine~ The Rise of Disaster Capitalism"......Fortunate Son was a really appropriate musical response to Katrina...
