This performance gave me chills at Ia 'Oe E Ka La that year. I make sure I catch kau'i and uncle kunewa's girls when ever they complete. I hope Kau'i and company come this year, but I don't know because Uncle Kunewa is a Judge this year. Ia 'Oe E Ka La in Pleasanton, CA Oct 31, solos Nov 1 and 2nd Group Kahiko and Auana.

oh yeah, and if you didn't know..Ola'a Beauty is a waltz; not your typical Hawaiian mele - hence the reason why it's an even more beautiful song to see performed.

ACTUALLY, doing backbends are a staple in this hālau, and is apart of the regular practicing of basics. According to Kumu Kauʻi, this came to him in a dream and personally, if I saw 35+ dancers from Kamuela, which weʻre used to seeing, in this number, I think itʻd look awkward. PLUS, olaʻa is a rear and hard lei to create...i bet finding this 9 was difficult enough. BEAUTIFUL JOB Kamuela, i look forward to their performances every year!! |
