well, nearly 27mln Russians died for huamnity. So I just ahte when people start saying something about Russia, or about communism. That is all. Oh well - good guys are usually forgotten. How many pro nazi-groups are now?Thousnads. How many commie groups are now? I can count it by my fingers.
warrat300 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Oh it is not about that, It is just that i hate when people speak wrong about communists. Most of them, are however, poorly educated, so, it is forgivable.

Whatever. Nearly 10000 Australians died fighting fascism. So what was the deal with the original comment?
warrat300 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)

warrat300: here is a quote from "The other side of the rainbow", Maire's autobiography (ISBN 0 340 75612 8, published 2000, page 243.) "...The news became a strong focus of my attention. At the time it was full of stories of the Eastern Europeans fighting for greater freedom as the Communist state hung in the balance...It inspired a song called 'Against the Wind.'So could you explain what your comment was about, please?
johnmccnj (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
...what the hell are you talking about? What the hell has WWII got to do with anything? And what is with this "your country?" My country is Australia, and while we fought the nazis, we certainly weren't saved from them. I'll post Maire's *exact words* about this song in my next post.
warrat300 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Whats with communism? I heard Ireland was severely damaged during WWII. Unless you are a nazi, please, rememebr who saved your country and whole europe, whose flag was flying strong upon Reichstag in 1945. Russians had 27 mln dead in that war, and the official call was not for Stalin, but for humanity. Have some respect for the dead. They fought for this idea, and they earned it.

Actually - according to Maire's own biography - the inspiration for Against the Wind was the overthrow of the various communist regimes in eastern europe. But the theme - fighting against oppression - is universal, and fits into multitudes of situations...
