jimi is the best no doubt but my second favorite would have to be the old john frusiante like BSSM and mothers milk and all of his live performances up to that point

My list.1. Jimi Hendrix2. Jimi hendrix3. Jimi Hendrix4. Jimmy Page5. Randy Rhoads6. from on no particular order: SRV, Leslie West, Satriani, EVH, Nuno Bettencourt, The old Clapton up to Cream, Gary Moore (His blues stuff really bores me now though), Alvin Lee, Eric Johnson, Ritchie Blackmore and I like to listen to Vai, Gilbert, etcetera. As you can see I like both blues/rock players and the shredders. Shredders tend to bore me after a while and Jimi Hendrix will never bore me.

You are right but Jimmy Page also played Hardrock, Jimi was so much more than just a bluesplayer and Dave Gilmour isn't necessarilty a bluesplayer in my book. EVH also has bluesy elements (Ice cream man)in his playing just like Satriani. Steve Vai on the other hand has hardly any blues influences. In other words I don't think EVH is out of place in this list.

If they had known then that he would die a year later and would get the legendary mythical status that he has now (and deservedly so), they would have stayed no matter what.

not talking about hendrix here, somebody said something about some other guitarist that was better, when nobody had ever heard of him. Jimi = God

I've been playing guitar for over ten years and I still have no idea how he plays so naturally. He used to say he dreamt his songs, if he was alive today he would be the king of funky glitch techno, cos theres no way he was satisfied with the range his guitar gave him.
