Bruckner 6 is awesome, but this video by cutting the beautiful transitional into half, make it AWEFUL! Imagine watching the pottery scene in Ghost (Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore) stop in the middle for commericals.

Personally, I like the slower tempo - it gives the notes more clarity, and it makes the brass section easier to hear (Bud Herseth and Arnold Jacobs - mmm, mmm, mmm!)

theme at 9:00 needs more energy and tempo definitely.

i hear a lot more details now with the tempo. kind of like it. idk about what bruckners intent was though. but im guessing bruckner likes how there are so many different interpretations

Regarding the "slow" tempo--just my personal opinion, but I get upset when Bruckner is too fast. I've always felt that one of the side benefits of Bruckner is that his music teaches patience, and one of the wonders of Bruckner is how he develops sound--when it happens too fast, it's ruined. His harmonies and progressions are so beautiful, sometimes transcendent,it's nice to be able to ponder and bask in them just a moment longer. Thanks for the video--it's always great to see the MasterBlaster

It's Friedman, Gilbertsen, Crisafulli, Kleinhammer.

IMHO you can play Bruckner hardly too slow. ;-) But I agree with your second point. Also he makes an mf nearly an ff at times.

I had a VHS tape of Solti/CSO performing the works of Wagner (flying dutchman, tristan and Isolde etc.) and I lent it to a college buddy of mine back in the '90's...haven't seen it since! Never give out your recordings b/c you'll never get the back! (He's somewhere in Japan in the Navy incidentally)

Don't you think this piece has Brahms' tragety andMahler's orchestration ?

Technically perfect, but no Bruckner. Das ist alles, nur kein Bruckner. Thanks for posting! |
