I found the thing you're quoting it's like you stopped reading a 1/4 til the end...Dilla heard a bootleg album assuming it was the work of some obscure techno producer who would never notice. inevitably though, bangalter caught the video on mtv and immediately recognised it. rather than demanding royalties, the parisian deemed it cool to be sampled by such respected hip-hop performers and instead asked SV TO REMIX ONE OF DAFT PUNKS TRACKS IN RETURN. the result was the reworking of aerodynamic

I can't believe daft punk allowed a mix like this to exist!!!!!!!!!
archdukezeb (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
If you say so. Doesn't sound like daft punk at all to me. You got a source for that?
Beatronome (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
You're wrong. J Dilla (Slum Village)sampled Extra Dry (by Thomas Bangalter, one half of Daft Punk) in his track 'Raise it up'. He didn't have the production credits because he found the Extra Dry song on a mixtape and thought it was from some unknown techno dj. Little did he know that Daft Punk were Slum Village fans, and instead of claiming money, they asked Slum Village to do a track with them: this Aerodynamic Remix. So, the credits belong to Daft Punk, who made the song. |
