Well obviously. Modern jazz is my favorite style, I listen to those guys more than anything else. But Wayne was talking primarily of bop and the fact that his thing is just tryin to make music without reference to any particular style, just free improv. If it sounds like jazz sometimes, it sounds like jazz but he definitely sounds different from anyone else.

You should listen to more jazz, and I don't mean bebop, or any "bop" for that matter (eg. hard bop, post bop, and free bop). I mean, listen to whats been going on in jazz especially in the 90s and on. Listen to Allan Holdsworth, Kurt Rosenwinkel, John Scofield, Mike Stern, Rez Abbasi, and so on. Jazz is a spirit of finding new sounds in improvisation, more so than any particular aesthetic.

Keith and Tim, man.... freaky. This might be my favorite of Wayne's bands.

Thanks..I mean..I really like this..its amazing what they are doing....and I also got a CD....Its my view..taste,,I guess...if I had the skills needed to make music similar tho this..I may have used some energy to arranged parts....maybe 1-2 hours with this cool rhythmic phrasing from all the musicians is a little bit to much....But..what the..f...who cares...:)

Personally I think there's just enough arrangement to keep from it being a jam, but not too much so it inhibits the free-flowing improvisation. 8 or 16 bar blocks that shift up and down in tempo, and heads is about all it needs! The arrangement suits the needs of the players here, and their dynamic - whether you dig the playing or not - is almost telepathic, and very fluid. With more arrangement that spirit would be hampered I think.Sorry some people are 'thumbs downing' your sensible comment!

To my ear, Wayne pumps enough tension/release with the arrangements as well as with a fair number of other means. I mean he's always trying different tempos, feels, tones, harmonies, but maybe his music it's just not your thing. I'm amazed at his sense of dynamics, which is a language in itself for Wayne. Not many players can handle those open single coils at this level, especially in a improvisational context. Can't get enough of that.

That is a completely honest, and valid comment. yet this type of improvising is no different from the static swung 8th rhythm of standard jazz. It's the same shit just modernized. I guess you think Miles Davis is repetitive? It's the same approach, just different interpretation of the beat. His harmonic interpretation destroys modern jazz jukeboxes though...

Great music and great musicians...bot honestly..those kvakk kvakk kvakk 16 notes funky and cool motions never stop...it actually sounds like the over the top way to much drinking coffey before recording..like early on Brand X.And get me right here..cause this are great musicians, and its great what they are doing...but to much of this stuff is just boring...to make this language/style become something more you have to arrange parts of it...
