I lived in marseilles when I was small and I remember all the things around the port. the hills, markets and even the dirty old streets.Everytime I see this movie,it takes me back to that old town of marseilles ! Not the new, busy and awful city !I love this movie because of that !

As maxeythecat mentioned, Horst died on March 3,2003 of pneumonia in Berlin. In his 60's he was still an outstanding looking man. Check out his performance with Hayley Mills and her father John Mills in the 1959 movie "Tiger Bay".

What a Beautiful, wonderous and lovely movie! It touches the human spirit and creates emotions we have all felt at one time in our lives. I am reminded of the impressionistic painters such as Vangoh, Cezanne and Degas while listening to the classical composer Claude Debussy. How beautiful this movie is and always will be!!

I absolutely adore this movie! A rare gem that you can watch time and again and never ever get tired of. Sad to say Horst Bucholz passed away in 2003 from pneumonia at the age of 69. Such an amazingly handsome man at any age...take a look at him as the Nazi doctor in Life is Beautiful and you'll see what I mean!

I wonder if they became together after the death of Panisse.

Thank you. You're very kind! I could watch it over, and over again! I'm in love with this film! As columbia67 said above, it has already been released on DVD. Definitely worth looking for!
