To avoid such a thing, simply pull out some change as well and 'rummage' through them for another quarter. You could say 'You know, let's make it harder, I'll put in a couple more.' The heat won't be on the coins anyway.

You could take this one step further by preparing a second coin with the symbol on one side only. Conceal the coin, load it at the very end, and switch it with the double-sided coin using some form of misdirection (e.g. pretend to "inspect" the last coin as an excuse for switching it with the palm-loaded coin). This makes the illusion more difficult, but it avoids the inevitable reveal when people ask for their coins back.

uh...did ya try this whit your friends?... after the trick they will take all theyr coins back AND YOUR COIN and they will see that it is a prepared trick.... you should use your own coins
