and in south america, oil "bubbles" out of the ground into ponds and there is a thriving ecosystem around these ponds. and the oilsands....they have been there for eons and the ecosystem flourished. the extraction may temporarily "mar" the landscape, but it is all reclaimed in the end.

The oil came from mother nature over millions of years. We're actually helping clean up nature's oil spill! The 'tailings' from the ponds came from the ground to begin with and all the water used in the oilsands evaporates right back into the atmosphere 100% clean! (the water cycle) And the CO2 just stimulates more plant/crop growth around the world, supporting more life. Nature is incredibly homeostatic!

hyperlight: I have never said I want Alberta to stop drilling, mining and manufacturing oil. I DON'T! If the U.S. doesn't want our 'dirty' oil (as they describe it) China wants it very badly. I think you may be misinterpreting my comments here. Most were said 'tongue in cheek' thanks

so u want Alberta to stop drilling, mining, and manufacturing oil???? have fun whem the gas prices rise to over 4,00 a litre, and damn USA might just start a war with Canada, because now they have to pay as much as Canada does for oil and gas, being because Alberta is USAs top oil supplier, because of us, they're price on oil is still only half of what we pay in Canada!!
