James Bond 007 AMV #15: The Living Daylights (GTA)
...Doing these kind of videos, merging so much copyrighted material to my own design, I suppose a copyright claim by some organization was inevitable...still, it could be worse...they could have called my bluff and make me remove it. Continuing on the notion of making my AMVs more suitable for mature audiences, here is 15, "The Living Daylights", with footage from the "Grand Theft Auto" series...and I don't think you can get any more mature than that in terms of videogames. As the 2001-2006 console war was getting into full swing, we would a lot of changes with the videogame industry as a whole...Sega and the Dreamcast dropped out, and Microsoft took their place with the Xbox, bent on making an online gaming revolution on consoles. Nintendo formally adopted optical disk media for the first time on Gamecube, their dominance in handheld gaming was stronger than ever with the Advance...until Sony would challenge them with the PSP, and in response, the DS would be born...But the far more interesting developments out of the previous generation were not from the technological side, but in the financial, political, and creative influences that were truly shaping the future of videogames...Electronic Arts was on their way to becoming a ruthless superpower in the business, buying up smaller studios, sports and other popular franchises, Nintendo sold Rare to Microsoft for over $300 million, seeing all of the titles previously in development for the Gamecube shifted over to the Xbox and it's successor, the 360. Morally committed politicians (Joe Liberman, Hilary Clinton) and deranged psuedo-crusaders (Jack Thompson) were getting involved in seeing videogames taking a more responsible stand on who exactly is playing their games, especially those that were too violent for them, and developers such as Bungie, Tecmo, and Rockstar Games took significant risks at aiming for the spectrum of gamers who had been around since the early years, creating and re-visualizing now globally popular franchises, such as "Halo", "Dead or Alive", and "Grand Theft Auto". GTA has been around since 1997, with I, II, and "London" on PS1...but when the franchise made the transition to an open-ended 3-D world, where the game played by your rules and at your own pace, full of rewards and consequences for every action...almost like reality...it was this sense of immersion and potential for mass violence and destruction was what parents, bored politicians, and lawyers alike feared...because of those too young or naïve to tell games from real life. The first time I played a "Grand Theft Auto" game was "Vice City" in late 2003...I just saw an opportunity to, and thought what the hell, I might as well try one of the games that everyone has been talking about...and right then and there, I fell in love with it...like nothing I'd ever experienced before...a title that let me make my own decisions and directions throughout the normal course of the game...and just baiting the Police around town was never boring, it always had an interesting turnout.Only until I purchased it for my own was I able to discover the massive and underlining plot that drove the motivations, and eventual ends of all the major characters. My passion for the "Grand Theft Auto" series is what led me to expand my gaming interests to Sony's line of systems, such as the PS2, PSP, and now the PS3...and then to finally make an inclusion of it into "The James Bond 007 AMV Collection"."The Living Daylights"...I can't say that I'm much of a fan of it...but remembering the first time I saw it on TV, I found it to be rather disappointing and not as engaging as any of the other installments...but I wasn't completely there that night, and now that I have the whole franchise on DVD, I'm hoping that the second opinion will be more favorable. The song, however, by A-ha is one of my favorites. Very energetic and dramatic...but along with "We Have All The Time In The World", nothing I could come up with went quite well with the lyrics...until I saw the first trailers for "IV", and once again, what was previously a mystery for nearly two years on, the big picture for #15 was very clear to me...the hope-stealing, fatalistic atmosphere surrounding "Grand Theft Auto" and their main antiheroes went very well with "The Living Daylights"...and the rest is history! As a notice to those who actually read these comments (and who get this far), there are no plans to proceed onto #16 and beyond, for they are reserved for "Season IV" and there remain too many left undone earlier in the collection, between #s 8 and 13. It just as well, because the more recent we get into the Bond anthology of music, the harder it will be to maintain originality, either in concept or synced footage.Until next time, pay no mind to the obnoxious advertising on the right and enjoy.

Yeah, I should of, I only watched the mission in the first bit, because I was pretty sure this would just be a video with a bond voice over. Now which wallpaper for my cave, blue or green?
Ginteru (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
I'm sorry about that, but, umm, watch the whole video before commenting, and go to Wall-Mart, your cave DOES need furniture

Again we are misunderstanding each other. GTA SA is primarly xbox, pc and ps2. Maybe your are thinking of GTA4? Cause I'm pretty sure this is GTA SA. If not, yes I went to the cave. It needs new furniture. Possibly a lazy boy.

I've just told you what console it is on, were you in that cave again?
screwyluey789 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
No, I was asking what console it was on. Not what is going on right now.
