2008 Republican presidential candidate Senator John McCain (R-AZ) went on Meet the Press Sunday to debate the war in Iraq with Senator John Kerry (D-MA). And what a show it was. With McCain's deluge of devastating points and dizzying rhetorical takedowns, Kerry was clearly no match. But the real contest was the debate between McCain and videographic evidence of statements made previously in the week. We match the two toe-to-toe, and let the viewer decide the ultimate debate champion.

- Sarah Palin's pastor: "We need to think like Jesus thinks. We are in a time and a season of war, and we need to think like that. We need to develop that instinct. We need to develop as believers the instinct that we are at war, and that war is contending for your faith. ... Jesus called us to die."- Palin was in church when Jews For Jesus founder David Brickner described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God's "judgment of unbelief" of Jews who haven't embraced Christianity.

McCain Flops: At a town hall meeting in Pemberton, NJ on June 13, 2008, McCain was asked about privatization and replied that I am not for quote privatization of Social Security. I never have been, never will be. That is a great buzzword for an attack. However, he then added that workers should have the right to put their own taxes, their own money into an account, which is still privatization. [Nashua Telegraph, 6/13/08]

McCain Flips: In March 2008, the Wall Street Journal reported that in an interview McCain said he still backs a system of private retirement accounts that President Bush pushed unsuccessfully. The Journal also noted that a centerpiece of a McCain presidential bid in 2000 was a plan to divert a portion of Social Security payroll taxes to fund private accounts.
