Funimation didn't dub Kenshin.

I know! I would love to work as a voice actress, not just for anime, but in general.I think the thing to concider is that the funimation english version takes out a lot of the gore, and changes the dialouge quite a bit --which must lightens up the mood! People who have only seen the english version think it's cheery miss out on the deep, rich, bloody, political plotline. Which I guess is OK; but I really enjoyed the stark contrasts of silly and depressing, lighthearted and political.

MORE SPOILERS! That's the thing. Just about everyone dies at the end. Karou gets a disease, kenshin gets it too, sano runs off into the wind on a horse, never hooks up with the 'kittsune' This is what I meant by not being upbeat.

Hmmm... I don't know if R.K isn't upbeat, but I do like your phrasing of "happy overtones". At times, it definitely seems that way. And you are absolutely right, you are entitled to your own opinion, especially when you bring up valid points. Plus, discussion- when done politely like this- can be kind of fun, no? I also agree that I wished more things could be dubbed like Disney. That would be awesome!

i see your point here. Perhaps the pitch in the english is just a straw or two away from the original. For me, it's the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak. It it is difficult with the english version, for me, to really appreciate kenshin. Largely because I saw the entire series in its original form. Other anime that I am used to in english before I see the original, I don't tend to hate as much. I just want the dubbed to stay true to the intention, like the disney dubs (all amazing!)

no. kenshin was not voiced by a 'squeaky girl' it was a female voice, but it was low registered. Very low. Except for the comical parts. i think it is kind of funny how all the comments that disagree with the greatness of this opening version are thumbs down like 8 times. Love that you appreciate difference of opinons! By the way, if you watch the samurai X movie before hand, read the manga or watch the movie after end song you'd know what I meant about not being upbeat;but with happy overtones.

Naruto comes on at 10:30 Eastern on Saturdays, but Toonami was cancelled.
Nebuljr (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Its true but the fact is that Toonami is nothing compared what it once was. Good Anime was always on Toonami...Now...its full of dissapointment. Plus U got to see good anime everyday because toonami was monday through friday. I got home from school and looked foward to watching Toonami...not anymore...too bad.

maybe where you live but not over here. Does it still come on in America? I just moved a month or 2 ago and before I left the guy on Toonami said there will be no more and that someday we will meet again. And in Jamaica, it is still on but with episodes of stuff we have already seen. I dunno...but i am confused. |
