Former Styx vocalist Dennis DeYoung, the voice for such Styx hits as "Babe," "Mr. Roboto," "Come Sail Away," and others is taking his orchestra based solo show on the road. He performs Styx classics as well as material from his solo and soundtrack catalog. DeYoung talked with us about playing the old Styx songs, and his departure from the band which is carrying on without him. "I have to be honest with you, and I have to tell you that what I'm doing, like I said, is I'm on stage playing the songs I wrote and I sang in Styx, and they're doing a lot of that themselves, on stage playing the songs I wrote and I played in Styx. So that's pretty much how I would answer that. But, I'm enjoying what I'm doing...

What about the lead singer of Survivor? Isn't he a good singer too?

I see no point in arguing if Styx is better with or with Dennis. I think things work out for a reason, and if the conflict they had is what led Dennis to do what he's doing now, then great. To me, it's a wonderful extension of that music that I loved so much growing up, and still do. I am very happy that he has had the opportunity to do this, and I've really enjoyed the show. I've seen Dennis 5 times -- 4 with Styx, and the last time his show with the orchestra -- always brillian!

I dunno man. I seen Styx with DDY and without. I do agree that each individual member of the "new" band is an awesome musician, but Styx just aint STYX without Dennis. And as far as Dennis doing his own thing? He wrote most of the hit songs. He has the right to perform them. I say "More power to him". His vocal/writing talent level is just incredible! The man is blessed with talent. I do miss the "Old" STYX though. Wish I could see them all together again, WITH JOHN. RIP, brother.

My favorite vocalist through the years are as follows (no particulat order)Dennis Deyoung -- StyxJohn Schlitt -- Head EastChuck Negron -- Three Dog NightLou Gramm -- ForeignerSteve Perry -- JourneyNo to take away any thing from the others, Dennis Deyoung is the only one that still got a great voice.

iv seen styx with deyoung and without. both tymes were great. styx are still a big band without deyoung and tbh will always be one as theres so much talent there but deyoung (being very talented himself) will always be a successful musician with or without styx. styx in my view are just now more of a rock band without deyoung which i personally prefer but it doesnt make styx better or worse thats purely based on opinion

They did not split because of hair dye,They split because dennis wanted to write songs about robots, and their classic rock base flipped out, along with tommy, they wanted to go a different direction.
