If they will only from the very start doing the planes with two men crew - it would save many lives! It was big mistake doing IL-2 in single mn version. Without any cover at the start of the WAR we lost some thousend of them. Men who fight on these planes are real HEROES.

The IL-2 was constructed of a combination of materials,the wings and rear section of the fusalage being primarily wood,lamenated delta cyprys.The front comprised of tubular steel and sheet metal/armor.

How did finnish fighter pilots shut down IL-2's. "The Il-2 had really tough armor, and from directly behind you could only eliminate the rear gunner. There were three separate armor plates behind the pilot and the engine. The aircraft flew usually at low level, so the only approach was from above. We attacked their formations from both sides to disperse their defensive fire. From the side and above, one could shoot at a place in the armpit of the Il-2's wing, which normally caught fire. "

Someone in Russia should study books in the style of William Green ("Warplanes of the Third Reich" - 1971 style) and publish a complete history of Russia's aviation. Too much information is unpublished, or so it seems to me.
