Wow..I can't even imagine. I'm from New Orleans, but I lived in Biloxi, Mississippi during Katrina. Not really any damage for us, but it was so heart breaking for me seeing all the desperate people. Also, I'm white, and racism is also heart breaking. To the person below, I hope God changes you mind.

I will give you much credit for surviving Katrina. It was a terrible storm in Mississippi also. You are an intelligent young man, and should be commended on that also. An interview done at the Astrodome, by Fox News, showed a black man, VERY well dressed I might add, and a white woman. When asked what they though they deserved, he responded, "20,000 dollars each". Now, as a white man, I was appalled by this. I would like to know what YOUR thoughts were on that. Survivor from MS here.

With all WE face as a human race, it hurts me to see such ignorant comments of name calling. Eric, your right, we are all of the same family, no matter race, size, height you name it. I wanted to thank you for sharing your personal story with us and I thank God that you have the strong family you do and your Mom is a powerhouse ;-) NOTHING like a mama's love! Trust me darlin, WE KNOW what the govt did and WHY they did it. Your a kind and gentle soul dear friend. Stay strong and Much Love~~~

I'm Italian and SO proud to call you brother. Thank you, you spoke not just for your race, but my family. Thank you for that, you did it most eloquently.
