You will notice how "Chaliapin" announces a selection from his little book. The audience would be quite impressed with the HUNDREDS of songs listed in the booklet, implying that Chaliapin had ALL of them in his immediate repertoire, and that he could sing any of them at any time! In truth, he usually sang only a relatively small handful of these songs, over-and-over with different audiences. Quite the showman! |
