I come back to this repeatedly. There's no doubt that this is THE best version of the Resurrection Symphony, and it's thanks to Rattle, who physically pushes everyone upwards and upwards.Check the young girl in glasses at the back of the choir about 5:40, enjoying Simon Rattle's faces!

today i went to see this symphony (opening concert of the season in Manchester) and it was so moving (I have CDs but this was the first time in live) and it made my soul so tender and joyous somehow.

It gets better with every viewing. Watch the choir sing their hearts out for Rattle as he urges them up and up and up to that glorious, magical, life-enhancing moment at 6.35 that drives away all the shadows. If that doesn't bring tears to your eyes, nothing will!

Nice...but it doesn't approach the 8th. But then, God, NOTHING approaches the 8th...

I always think CBSO is not great enough to express Rattle's interpretation. Now he has BSO and occasionally takes button for VPO. Now listen to what he did in 9th with VPO. Amazing indeed!!! BY the way von Otter really rocks!!!

Wow. Great. What can you say. Simon Rattle really understands the work and the symphony is breath-taking. You get the sense that it has a lot to do with Mahler's artistic struggles - that whatever the adversities he is going to his god - which is the G-d and which becomes our the God - the God of our individual understanding.

best piece of music ever written in all time.
