What if you've kicked a black belts ass?

So true. Because if you consider it well you start with a white belt, reach the black belt (1st dan) and then train upto the 10th dan where you ultimately go back to the white belt. But if ever we reach the last dan we would be a lot wiser though I heard say that the 10th dan is awarded posthumously to great masters. Still can't grudge them. ;)

There is also the fact that a black belt does not mean much: reaching shodan, just means that you are welcome as a beginer in the school and that you can now start to be trained. So for those who are happy to reach shodan and then stop, you are just a beginer ;)

ahh.... I am JKa but it wouldn't be polite to say JKA is the best style, nor would it be true.

Anyone who compares himself with a black belt when he hasn't even reached that level is a fool. Black belts are way ahead not only in their techniques but the way they practice their karate: with humility. My sensei is a black belt 3rd dan and you never ever hear him saying that he is better than that guy or that Shotokan is the best Martial Art. I think some of you really have to learn the fundamental guidelines of Shotokan...

Hey WKF-Boys! You've seen that? THIS is Kumite! Not this ridiculous "Ippon"-"Nihon"-"Sanbon"-System! Karate means "Ippon" and over! They have better and stronger techniques. JKA is way better than the weak WKF...

this is not "kumite" this is "point" kumite, and since a single clean shot can result in loss (or win) both sides approach the bout "very" carefully. This type kumite is all about 1. "timing" 2."speed" 3. ability control and "precision" (very difficult). For those who "don't understand" the mentality behind Traditional Karate this may be boring - the average Joe finds more excitement in a brawl, which is NOT what karate teaches and encourages anyone to practice. If these guys unleash all...

It`s interesting to see how Kumite has changed over the years. These guys are technically good, but they don`t move at all, just hop up and down on the spot like two rabbits! No springing backwards and forwards and shouting a lot like nowadays! And no protection either. Interesting though.

I agree shotokan is great, but that's a small thing lacking about it. Would definetly improve shotokan in my eyes if they would change it to what you say.
