From 1991-92, Gibson had an ES-175 Joe Pass signature model. The body was a little bit thinner than the standard ES-175, and the pickup, as you noted, was placed closer to the neck to better achieve the woody tone you get from the neck position.Phenominal musician.

Any Joe Pass experts out there know what model guitar this is? Looks like a one-pickup Gibson ES-175, but the pickup is right at the end of the fingerboard like on a Heritage. All 175's I've ever seen have a wide space between the fingerboard & the neck pickup. I would guess it is an unusual custom-made model.

Very nice question. Joe is a huge jazz icon, and you have to find someone very good to compare Joe to to make him look like a huge moron.

Is Joe Pass dead?
