All that hippie lighting in the background distracts from his performance! When he walks out he also looks so self concious and clumsy.

JacquesBrel11 (December 31, 1969 at 6:59 pm)
Doesn't compare to the original imo :/. Bought 'Scott Walker Sings Jacques Brel' recently, listened to the first few songs, and promptly gave it back.

No interest.Ridiculous music, no personality ... so far than Brel

Jacques Brel is Belgian. You're right and he began to sing in 1953 and stopped in 1977 with his last album "Les Marquises"

Why each singer MUST sing Jacques Brel?? After all, Jacques Brel made his songs to sing himself them!

Walker is singing a song, he is a singer.Brel was sing a song, but he was a chansonier. It is a very great difference, there is no tradition of the torch song in the manner of brel, even the english phrase torch song doesn't cover it.It is a uniquely french phenomena, so if it doesn't translate it can hardly be blamed on Walker.have a listen to Walkes recorded versions of Brel, there's a lot more passion there than here. |
