http://www.mediaed.orgThe Disney Company's massive success in the 20th century is based on creating an image of innocence, magic and fun. Its animated films in particular are almost universally lauded as wholesome family entertainment, enjoying massive popularity among children and endorsement from parents and teachers.Mickey Mouse Monopoly takes a close and critical look at the world these films create and the stories they tell about race, gender and class and reaches disturbing conclusions about the values propagated under the guise of innocence and fun. This daring new video insightfully analyzes Disney's cultural pedagogy, examines its corporate power, and explores its vast influence on our global culture. Including interviews with cultural critics, media scholars, child psychologists, kindergarten teachers, multicultural educators, college students and children, Mickey Mouse Monopoly will provoke audiences to confront comfortable assumptions about an American institution that is virtually synonymous with childhood pleasure. Interviewees include Henry Giroux, Diane Levin, Gail Dines, Elizabeth Hadley, Carolyn Newberger, Alvin Poussaint, and Justin Lewis.

to many people start drama for the wrong reasons. the only reasons why you guys see the bad in disney is because your looking for it. you need to look for the good in the movies like the children are.

completely true. good point

you people are only looking at the bad parts of the films. you need to look at the end of the movies where he characters are turning into good people. they try to teach children what way not to act (which is usually the beginning or in the middle of the movie) and how to be kind and not rude(where the characters change in the end and become better people). i do not understand why people cant see that. everyone seems like all they want to do is start something that shouldn't be started.

I second that. We'd like our childhood memories intact, thankyouverymuch.

True, but the above mentioned activites are rare abnormalities. All of us, every last one, enjoyed Disney movies as kids. Some of us want our childhood memories intact, you know. That's not unreasonable. And the first statement is a logical fallacy known as reductio ad absurdum.

As a genius, I must place my input on top of the common minds. This film introducing all of you to reality. In all reality, a coporation is only concerned with makeing money. It has no concern with social goods. Disney has a powerful positon in your life and you child's life. It shaped their imaginations. Much further, Disney shapes your child's perceptions of races, situations, and violence. If thats not scary, then you are less than intelligent.

This is bullshit.Disney is only trying to make money. Just because their is limited races or religion or anything doesn't provoke racism or sins.Speaking of which, Try to recall a time when disney seriously hurt you or a child.Another thing. Tarzan is TARZAN. DUH!! OMFG he was lost in a jungle, what else do you expect him to wear?"Overlook the beast or prince or beast to bring the prince out." It's telling kids to deal with smartasses or to forgive someone. SIMPLE.

How can they say there're no black people in Disney, since they just use Pocahantis and The Jungle Boy as examples. Not only that, but you can't critisize the story for staring a white man when the original story itself has him written as a British child. It doesn't work either when you look at it with a smart assed aproach. Beauty and the Beast simply says, "Forgive and Learn." It's that kind of thinking that put this world in its "Get even" state.

oh for the love of god. jelousy = whingers. ooh disney has to be careful because kids are watching. kids today watch CSI.As for that won going on abotu beauty and the beast ITS THE STORY, i'd love to grab her and make her read the bloody book. how dare she undermine the foundation of what is like a template of most of the best love stories ever!? here and her stupid glasses that dont fit her face....oh look i'm being as petty as they are.
