"Nearly always sang with someone". "Seldom sang with anyone". Neither statement is true. He did lots of both. Just browse a complete discography. To add to the list of Dylan duets? Sounded rather good with Emmylou Harris. See under "Desire" ...He's done a lot of duets - and a lot of them were good.==

To settle the dispute, you would completely count out the genius of Dylan to say that he couldnt sing a duet...

Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Bette Midler, Ron Wood, The Band, Mavis Staples, The Grateful Dead ...

I've seen and heard hundreds of songs performed by dylan along with a lot of people. I don't mean JUST duets. Tom Petty, the wilburys, clapton, harrison, the byrds, the rolling stones. Baez didn't just sing 63-65 they done rolling thunder, hard rain, the peace day thing and numerous others. I barely see him without someone else!!

In response to snookums, Dylan rarely sang with anyone. He sang some duets with Baez from 1963-65, but those were always a small part of his concerts. Over he years he has had disasterous duets with many other famed singer/somgwriters, i.e. Patti Smith, Van Morrison, Clapton; this is possibly the best duet I have ever seen/heard.

yeah but it's fair enough to say that you don't normally think of harmonies when you think of BD - kind of liked to hog the vocals to some extend i suppose. having said that he has a great voice for harmonies - he would be doing the low harmony of course.
