The tempo markings are 144bpm, and Ravel once said to a pianist that played it too slow: "her waterfalls sound sad".

Tempo markings or not, this piece is supposed to sound like a flowing fountain, not a flash flood. I don't understand why people take unfavorable reviews so personally! Richter is great, but this version... not so much.

Yep. But for me it's what I would hear in one of my nightmare's... It's the way that it repeats in such patterns such as 13 - 20 seconds. |
