Haha IrelandRaven you got pwnt bitch!Jim Carrey is one of the greatest actors of all time. Look at all he has accomplished, you don't win 2 Golden Globes, 11 MTV awards and a people's choice award by playing characters who are "flailing their limbs everywhere" all the time.

Damn, my comment did not go where I wanted it to. Hmm, well, it was a response to IrelandRaven complaining about Carey's movements at 58 seconds. Also, after reading many of Ireland's comments on this video, I fell the need to remind him that Naturalistic Western Acting is not the only form of acting and considering it thusly strangles the art. Clowning, for instance is another style of acting which also happens to be many centuries older than the Naturalistic techniques pioneered in Russia.

it was emphasizing his status as a fraud. The "throwing his arms behind his shoulder like a fucking retard" was his attempt at a back-fist strike after consulting the poster detailing Karate techniques. The character failed miserably at the timing and emphasis of the back-fist due to his fraudulent nature. The comedy comes in the character's utter failure as a Karate instructor, this failure is emphasized by Carey's clowning.

So your telling me, when he was in Man On The Moon he was the same as Ace Ventura. When he was in Lemony Snicket etc he was the same The Truman Show. When he was in The Majestic he was the same as The Mask. When he was The Grinch he was the same as Number 23.When he was in Eternal Sunshine etc he was the same in Dumb and Dumber?I am pretty sure you can tell these characters apart.I'm done. You are making no sense and your debate is pointless.

acting in its basic form is pretending to be someone else, or just pretending in general. in its most complicated form its about tapping into deep emotions and transforming yourself into a completely different person, be it a gangster, a doctor, a wildlife keeper, a murderous psycho etc. not just different guys who all happen to flail their limbs everywhere. your not pretending to be someone else, you ARE someone else.

He doesn't use the same mannerisms for each character he portrays. Are you talking about the same person? |
