Rumours that he experimented with opium, are more than just rumors... plus there is a lot of metaphorical imagery within Alice's adventure in wonderland relating to drug use... plus it was pretty common and perfectly acceptable to smoke opium.... he told the story to three young girls on a boating trip, and alice 10 at the time persuaded dodgson/carroll to put it to paper as she enjoyed it so much...

Actually, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written in 1865 by Lewis Carroll, long before LSD was invented in 1938 by Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann. Although it is rumored Carroll experimented with opium, it is not confirmed, and it is also unlikely the author experimented with hallucinogenic mushrooms either.
