FACT: Cholly "Pop" Adtkins choregraphed for the Pips before Motown. Berry Gordy saw this group and loved there stage performance and asked them to sign with Motown. So they did and they brought Pop with them and that's how the Motown School of Dance was formed. Thanks to Gladys Knight & the Pips.

Am I right in thinking Gladys is the only Motown artist to sing a Bond film theme song? Licence to Kill?

They both slacked off in the late 70's , after disco, but both made comebacks and have enjoyed longevity. Gladys' voice has held up better than Aretha's. But they are the two undisputed titans of soul music. There is Gladys and Aretha and the rest.

Gladys had her first gold record in 1961, Every Beat Of My Heart, followed by of few other hits in the early sixties. Aretha was a relative unknown with Columbia Records. After signing with Atlantic Records in 67, Aretha exploded and was the reigning Queen during the late 60's and early 70's. But around 73, Empress Gladys overtook LadySoul with hits like Neither One Of Us, Midnight Train To Georgia, Imagination, If I Were Your Woman, etc... |
