i completely agree with you. i love her bluesy, soulful voice with the little twang and slightly southern accent. i was completely surprised when i found out she is British. she's definitely in my top five.

she does have a unique voice in my point of view. her voice is a low turner but with a slight twang(mostly because shes british). her voice has a soul-like tone but with a light southern accent. all in all she is... different... (?)

her voice is somewhat reminiscent of early whitney houston. in "son of a preacher man" it seemed tina turner-ish. she's probably a great singer, but the voice doesn't sound unique to me. of course, i didn't watch the video-just listened. measured to, say, winehouse in her frank era, i find it's like plain vanilla vs. super-fudge-butter-nut-chunk. like listening to a student sax recital vs. coltrane at the vanguard. 2 bad winehouse got cracked out & lost it. oh, with eyes open stone looks great!
