Can't believe this was 30 years ago. He came to Frankfurt Germany when I was in the Army and gave free tickets to servicemen and servicewomen. What a class act he was and still is.

[Part whatever of whatever] Sitting here, drunk, in the wee hours of the morning feeling so pleased with myself for beating the character limit imposed by YouTube for comments, I just realized it would have been infinitely cleverer had I posted [Part 2 of 2] before I posted [Part 1 of 2]. Oh well, what can you expect from a drunk. Love more and hate less.

[Part 2 of 2] I love this song as a whole so I am therefore reluctant to single out any one portion of it, but Rosemary Butlers voice, brought to life by my beloved stereo equipment, was one of the defining memories of my adolescence. Watching this video makes me feel young again. Thank you! >> P.S. It is around 2am and Im drunk, again, and living in the past. Alas, Hi-Fi was but the first of my many addictions. Peace out.

[Part 1 of 2] I got addicted to Hi-Fi stereo equipment around the time (1978) that the original Advent Loudspeakers (the ones with orange tweeters) were the best speakers a 14 year old could possibly dream of affording. Many-a-night I laid on my bed, between those hard earned Advents powered by an equally hard earned Onkyo A5 integrated amplifier, listening to this song. Yes, I consider The Load Out & Stay one song.

Jackson's music helped me through some tough times in my life. I just discovered he was (still is?) a soulful surfer (definitely not the stereotypical surfer). Just saw an indie flick "Live: a music and surfing experience" with lots of jackson. early on he actually had to choose between riding waves or making music! thankful he chose music, but i'm not surprised money wasn't a driving force in his decision. he loved riding waves & making music & lucky for us, he chose music. The guy's pure soul! |
