That eplaination doesn`t quite fit! LOLObviously the weight of the wood doesn`t counterbalance the weight of a fork and a spoon!The center of balance is where the wood meets edge of the glass. The cutlery handles project beyond that point. The burning stopped at the rim of the glass, and extinguished itself, maintaining the fulcrum point. If a rod of magnesium was used to balance it, and that was set alight! It would well overbalance before it had a chance to melt the glass!

easy...the atoms of carbon in the toothpick when burned condensed into the atoms of nitrogen atoms, thus moving the mass of the toothpick into the center of gravity...and thus the fork and spoon do NOT fall |
