I saw The John Coltrane Quartet in '65 about half a dozen times. This was in Boston too.I would get to The Jass Workshop about 45 minutes before the gig so that i could get the closest seat to Elvin where i could catch Elvins' splinters!What a wonderful spectacle to see and hear...Elvin with 'Trane, Jimmy and McCoy.

umm, thats an ignorant ginger baker statement.. he is NOT one of my favorite rock drummers from that era but the man was creative and earned the admiration of max roach. what he owes to elvin, bonHAM owes triple to motown/stax and then some more.. oh, but he covered it up by playing very loud so he was "original".. elvin jones though is one of my fav's. i would love to hear some live clips when he briefly played along with rashied ali behind coltrane if they even exist.
